About Tyler Carey — Founder, Trellis

Built from
the inside out.

Eleven years inside high-growth organizations. Four years directly focused on supporting leaders scale. One decision to build something of his own around the work that mattered most.

The story

Why I built Trellis — and what I believe about leadership.

I spent the last four years of my time at Amazon Web Services working directly with executives on leadership assessment and development. I watched what happened when leaders got a precise, science-backed understanding of their default way of operating — how they make decisions, how they lead their teams when the pressure mounts, and how they distill complexity into manageable parts. The impact was real, and it was consistent.

When Amazon asked me to relocate to keep that role, I made a different choice. I decided to see if I could build something of my own around the work I had seen create so much value for one of the highest-performing companies in the world. That's Trellis.

I've spent eleven years inside organizations — building people analytics capabilities, supporting new country expansions, and leading leadership development initiatives across complex, high-growth environments. That experience gave me something classroom training rarely does: a deep understanding of what organizations actually need from their leaders, and what gets in the way.

I use the Hogan Assessment framework — the same tools trusted by 75% of Fortune 500 companies — because I've seen firsthand what's possible when behavioral science is applied with rigor and care, not just administered and filed away.

I started Trellis because I've seen what becomes possible when leaders and teams finally understand how they're wired. The potential was always there. The work is about surfacing it.

What makes this work different

Why Trellis.

01

Deep experience at scale

Nine years at Amazon Web Services — one of the world's most operationally disciplined organizations — focused on how leaders sustain effectiveness as scope, pressure, and complexity increase. Hundreds of hours interviewing and observing common patterns across high performing executives.

02

Executive-level application, not theory

Four years working directly with AWS executives navigating expanded roles — identifying which leadership behaviors to double down on and which needed to evolve. This work is built on what actually moves the needle at the senior level, not what sounds good in a workshop.

03

Grounded in evidence, not intuition

A background in organizational psychology and talent management means every engagement is built on validated methods. The Hogan Assessment framework has decades of predictive validity research behind it — trusted by 75% of Fortune 500 companies for good reason.

04

Standardized process, personalized outcomes

A repeatable assessment structure combining validated personality data, structured interviews, and stakeholder input — rigorous and consistent, but always tailored to the individual leader or team. The method is the same. The insight is always specific.

Work together

Let's find out if this is the right fit.

The first conversation is 30 minutes — no pitch, no pressure. Just an honest look at what you're working with: what's happening with your leaders or team, what you've tried, and what a meaningful outcome would look like.

From there, we'll discuss whether this work makes sense and what the right engagement would look like for your organization.

Book a strategy call
